Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect from a treatment?
A typical treatment involves removing your shoes and socks and sitting comfortably in a reclining chair. Otherwise you remain fully clothed. I will assess the feet and then stimulate various points to identify areas of tenderness or tension.
I then use brisk movements to warm the feet up. Then pressure is applied from the toes to the heel according to your comfort. Most people feel calm and relaxed after a treatment. They may even feel sleepy.
Occasionally, people feel cold-like symptoms, or may feel anxious or tearful, but this is only temporary and is considered to be part of the healing process.
Will it tickle or hurt?
Reflexology doesn’t tickle, even if you have ticklish feet, as a firm but gentle pressure is used. Certain points on the feet may feel tender during treatment, but generally the treatment will not hurt. If certain reflexes are very tender, I will adjust the pressure to make it more comfortable.
Is it safe?
Reflexology is safe for the majority of people including children and the elderly. However there are specific conditions, such as thrombosis, that can mean that reflexology may not be suitable. These conditions will all be discussed in the consultation process, or you can call me for advice before making a booking.
Are treatments altered for different types of clients?
Lighter pressure and shorter sessions are often used for pregnant women, children and the elderly. A course of treatments will be personally tailored for your needs, and may vary in terms of techniques used, treatment lengths and treatment frequency, based on the initial consultation.
